The Vyzhnytsia variety is a tall autumn variety bred in Ukraine.

Vizhnitsa is a Ukrainian pear variety that is distinguished by its tall growth habit, moderate and stable fruiting, and good adaptation to growing conditions. The variety is well suited for farm and semi-intensive orchards, as well as for farms where stability without the risk of overloading the harvest is important.

Tree Characteristics

Trees of the Vyzhnytsia pear variety are vigorous, with strong growth and a well-developed canopy. The variety is characterized by a balanced relationship between vegetative growth and fruiting and is not prone to excessive crop load. This has a positive effect on overall tree health and ensures regular bearing.

The canopy is of medium density and responds well to both formative and regulatory pruning. Due to its moderate fruiting habit, the variety does not require intensive fruit thinning.

Fruit

Fruits are medium to above-medium in size, with a regular pear-shaped form. The skin is smooth, green at harvest maturity and turning yellowish at consumer maturity, sometimes with a slight blush.

The flesh is light-colored, juicy, tender, and has a well-balanced sweet-and-sour flavor. The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption and for marketing on the domestic market.

Ripening Period

The Vyzhnytsia pear belongs to the autumn ripening group. Harvest maturity occurs in autumn, depending on the region and seasonal weather conditions.

Bearing and Yield

Fruiting is moderate and regular. The variety is not prone to overcropping, which reduces the risk of biennial bearing and contributes to stable fruit quality from year to year.

Rootstocks and Plantings

The Vyzhnytsia pear can be grown on various types of rootstocks. In our nursery, observations are being conducted on quince rootstocks Eline 1, S-1, and BA-29, with evaluations of growth vigor, compatibility, and adaptation under modern orchard management technologies.

Main Advantages of the Variety

vigorous tree growth;

moderate and stable fruiting;

no tendency to overcropping;

good adaptability to growing conditions;

consistent fruit quality.

Recommendations

The Vyzhnytsia variety is recommended for growers who value reliability, stable yields, and a healthy balance between vegetative growth and fruit production. It is suitable for orchards with traditional or semi-intensive planting systems.

The variety is currently being studied under the conditions of central Ukraine, in the Cherkasy region.
